variator ?

i havw a peugeot speedfight 2 50cc i tuck the variator of and in side the variator were the brass plate is it had a deep score mark in side it all the way round and i keep losing speed i wanted to no if that ment to be there plz help cheers

There is no brass bit in there?the variator has two halves to it and they are both aluminium and have a nickel plating on them.if the nickle has worn off i would buy new parts for it and there should be no groove in there .
