Piaggio x9 250?

Hi All,
I have a 03 reg Piaggio 250. The Speedo/clocks dont work, this includes rev counter and temp and fuel gauge. On this model you have a digital display also seperate from the speedo etc which displays miles and temp outside and trip meter. This does not seem to work properly and the miles are reading 999999km When you ride the meter will work and turn over to 000000 and so on but when you turn engine off it resets to 999999KM. Its driving me bonkers. I have taken battery out and pressed the reset button many times, including holding it down but stil nothing. It use to work all ok. I think the weather we had over winter killed it. I have taken various bits apart and sprayed with WD40 to no avail....
Do I just cave in and buy a new display and speedo unit or is there something else I can do.

Hi Roger, I have a 250 2000 and experienced the same problem. I got a second hand set of clocks, but to no avail. I studied the wiring diagram for ages, checking the fuses, connections etc., and found nothing until I checked the starter solenoid. As soon as I took off the rubber cover, it was evident what was happening. The plastic top had been melting slowly due to the connection heating up.
This is where the power comes from to feed all the controls, and power was not passing continuously causing all the clocks to go haywire.
I replaced the starter solenoid and then all was well

Ok I went to the x9 forum and found out that the digital display controls everything including seperate speedo/fuel/temp etc and a bit of water will and does cause problems. I am currently drying it out on a radiator. This may do it. I wil let you know how I get on. Any other ideas would be good though. I will also hunt down a 2nd Hand digi displa if this does not work
