gilera cougar starter motor whirs but does not start engine?

The starter clutch is worn on it then,take it off its on the back of the magneto/generator rotor(left hand engine case) and take it apart the rollers will have lots of little flat spots and the springs may be broken or weak you can try to clean them up with some fine wet and ry paper but if this doesnt work then you will need the renew them.
