intrasigent anglers should face life ban when seen to blantantly discard gear that threatens wild life who get tangled in line and swallow hooks trying to free themselves of line.
No leaflet will be enough.
The thing to do is to pick it up, then take it home and burn it. I am always picking up old line and rigs from the bankside. Just tell the bailiff/owners if you think you know who did it.

Bankside rubbish is a disgrace ive been fishing nearly twenty years and never leave my rubbish most of the rubbish comes from other poeple not anglers but we get the blame for it.Poeple dont throw rubbish on the floors in doors they put it in the bin why cant they keep hold of it and put it in a bin

Anglers generally are the ones that spot enviromental problems before anyone else. We do not mind paying the fee`s charged to pay for the inspectors and wardens. we respect eachother and teach others next to us if the are struggling ( beginners). Or thats how I was taught when I first started fishing 40 years ago.

I cast a lump of luncheon meat close to a swan once - in an attempt to scare it away from my swim. The swan saw the bait coming and grabbed it - for a few seconds I had a swan on my line and felt quite ashamed. The swan luckily didn't seem to bother much.
Whoever issues Fishing Licences these days would do well to issue a small leaflet with it containing guidance and advice - cut up discarded or tangled line - put it in a bag - take it home with you etc.
