How can i tighten alternator belt on Toyota Celica 1.8 99/v ?

I am having trouble adjusting the alternator belt, which is too loose and wont stop squeaking.
Have tired loosening top bolt on alternator and tightening bottom (what looks like adjustment bolt)but does nothing??? What am i doing wrong, please can somebody HELP as noise is driving me mad!!!
