Mend Rover Key Fob Replace

How do i completely remove rover imobilliser?

I have a problem with my key fob, expensive to replace. Have tried all kinds of ways to try to start the car without the horn blowing, security code, disconecting battery, standing on my head and stamping my foot 3 times etc.but nothing works. To date no one has been able to tell me a way to completely remove the system from the car. Any suggestions? Its a ROVER 400i

Just a thought, but have you tried to operate the fob minus its cover. I had this problem, but discovered the reason it wasn't working was because the 'innards' were bending when the buttons were pressed due to there being some packing missing from inside the fob casing. Screwed up some kitchen roll and placed it strategically inside the casing (opposite side to the buttons) to tighten it all up and hey presto!!

Rover Immobiliser - yes it can be removed - sorry not going to tell you how - but be asured it will cost a whole lot more than getting a replacement remote control from Rover and about 4 times as much as getting a replacement remote from your local vehicle locksmith. Average cost from Rover £90+programming - average cost vehicle locksmith £60 all in.

Unless you are an electronics wizzard you leave it well alone. The little fob you are talking about sends a signal to the immobiliser behind the dashboard which then talks to the engine ECU. All three bits work together and are electronically coded. If one is u/s nothing works. You can over ride the immobilser if you know the key code . You then have to turn the drivers door key in the lock left and right according to the code.(see your handbook). They are a bl**dy night mare took me three weeks to wire one into a kit car. Failing that it's a trip to the auto electrician. Don't forget you may have lost power in the keyfob (new battery) you will then have to hold the unlock button down on the key fob for about five seconds to allow it to start working again with the immobliser.(after you have changed the battery) . Hope this helps. Gaz

Have a look inside the door panel for the ' micro switch '. Had exactly the same problem, checked this, found it was sticking, WD40 and away it went good as new!
