Mend Sharp Dvd Discs Time

Why have my 2 Sharp DVD recorders stopped reading blank discs?

I have two Sharp DVD recorders, and both (over time)
have stopped recognizing blank discs.

I receive the same message on both: "DISC CANNOT BE PLAYED". Various brands of discs (DVD-R) have
been used to no avail.

Any suggestions?
