these cookers have a thermocouple saftey valve that stops the flow of gas if the valve is cold. This is the standard gas safety system in Europe. Keep the knob pressed for 5-10 seconds to let the valve open and the burner will stay on. Check that the blue flame is visible from the openings on the bottom of the oven. Also keep the oven door slightly ajar for the first 60 seconds of ignition.
