Wet carpets?

Hi. I have had my 1988 XR2 now for a month, and have been driving it now for two weeks. i have now noticed that on the drivers side, (the worse side) that the carpets are getting soaked under the mats. It did cross my mind that there maybe a hole or something under the car, but as i did buy the car with an mot and it is on both sides i ruled it out. So i thought that i would ask you guys and girls for your advice before i go out and spend my hard earned cash, paying someone to solve this, Thanks
