RE: GPZ 500?

Hello me again,

Thanks for all the previous advice you gave me about my GPZ 500. I will take everything you said onboard. My next problem is. I dont have my license yet and I have two options, fork out around £500 for my DAS or just do my restricted test for £100. I have been doing some reading about the law with the restriction and I am to believe that all I need is to apply some washers to restrict the airflow. I do NOT need to get it dyno'd or have done professionally with the certificate. Which is alot cheaper then bying the kit from a dealer and even more cheaper then my DAS but I dont know where to find the washers I need or even the dimensions so I can DIY.

Does anyone know what the dimensions are or where I can buy the kit? I've tried ebay but no luck.

('93 Kawa GPZ 500 A6)

Many thanks,

Scott.

Hello thanks for the replies. Thats the argument at the moment. Apparently, its up to the insurance company to prove its not 33bhp. Motorcyclenews have rang several insurers and asked if a certificate required and they said no its up to us to prove your bike isnt restricted should you have a crash.

Money is the issue at the moment. I bought this 500 for just under £900 which was really cheap for its age and its execellent conditition. I bought it with the intent that it will force me to get off my CBT as atm I dont see the point. If I sold it and paid for my DAS I wouldnt beable to replace the bike.

I am from the UK. Please read this link for further information on the rule with the paper work and restricted license.

Many thanks.

p.s i can get the kits but really it needs to be fitted by a certified mechanic to make it valid.where in the country are you ?

you will not be able to do it yourself as the insurance company will want a copy of the fitting sheet i have one loads of them, they are from a company called
f1 international, they research the amount of bhp that the engine makes and restrict it until it is at 33 bhp then manufacture a pair of washers put them in a blister pack give you about 5 copies of a fitting sheet in different colours and charge a dealer £90 !the retail is as bb said .This is how MOST of them are done ,a few bikes have different needles for the carbs and plastic tubes to restrict slide movement also some have washers put in the exhausts like the xv535 but your will have the inlet manifold washers.but any insurance company will ask for the proof and will not let you make your own as you would need proof that its only 33 bhp f1 international have really got this sewn up and make a fortune selling washers and paper.sorry to tell you that its a bummer.

Hi there,
Ok if you want to get it restricted by a shop it will cost you £150 +
Not sure how easy it is, one for the doctor I think! Cant be that hard though.

Personally I would do your test and have done with it! You wil thank me when in a few years you have a fireblade.
If money is an issue then prehaps you need a rethink. No sure how much you paid for you 500 but I am sure you can sell it again. Then buy a another bike which your able to ride which does not need restricting.
