How can i tighten the handbrake on my P-Reg Fiat Punto?

The handbrake on my fiat punto only fullen tighetns after 7 clicks, and i've been told that ideally this should occur in 4 clicks. Also, i've just moved to a new house where everyday i park on a very steep hill, so i need my handbrake working it's best.

Have search various forums about how to tighten the handbrake on my P-Reg Fiat Punto, but they all mention removing the ashtray behind the handbrake as the 1st step in adjusting the nut. Unfortunatley in mine there is no ashtray behind the handbrake, so i'm unsure where to start as i don't want to adjust the wrong thing.
