brake problem?

after having to brake quite hard i found my brakes to have went completely full travel of pedal very spongy and little or no brake...2001 vauxhall zafira

As xs 11 said, check brake fluid level. If one of the brake lines - usually one of the short hoses at the front wheel calipers - is weak, hard braking can be enough to cause it to split.
If the fluid level is low, top it up and press the pedal a couple of times, any leak will be fairly obvious.
If the fluid level is OK, you may have a failed seal in the master cylinder.

look at basics, ,sounds like you have lost a lot of fluid.check all brake lines and calipers for leaks look for areas of damp patches or drips.look around reservouir for leaks.are brake pads worn.has vehicle been regularly maintaned.check brake fluid level in reservouir and top up ,if level has gone too low you will have to bleed the system.the may be contaminated with water or air.
