oil light on ?

No need for name calling !!!! An added symptom is that the oil light is not coming on when ignition check is done only flickering and stuff after a while. Did take advice from a fitter just thought someone might have an IDEA

How stupid do you have to be to drive a car with the oil light on??
Oil light is on because oil PRESSURE is low, not oil LEVEL.
Could be a faulty switch, but if it is anything else ( oil and filter not been changed for too long, wrong grade of oil used, faulty oil pump etc.) you will wreck your engine.
If the pressure is low you will already have damaged it.
Lets see, £50 to have a mechanic check it and do an oil change, or the cost and inconvenience of getting your broken car dragged from the hard shoulder and a new engine fitted, your choice.

The dip-stick show the volume of oil but the oil warning light indicates something worng with the oil pressure - it may be wise to get the car serviced.

There's always the remote possibility that the oil pressure sensor is lighting the light when it shouldn't but if that's the case you will never know if the oil light is telling you about a real or an imaginary problem - to assume imaginary could cost you a very expensive repair bill.
