how can i upgrade my 04 mondeo brakes?

i have a 04 mondeo tdci zetec-s 130 and the brakes are very soft and not very responsive, garage says its normal with these cars but i just dont like it, how can i upgrade my whole braking system ie bigger discs calipers and pads and what is the best parts to use
