Problem resolved when firmware updated by holding Back-Up on power-down and power-up.

Further 10 mins to update system software, all working fine now.

*Problem can occur when telephone line and electricity supply is interupted, also suggest unpluging telephine cable at rear of box. Each Sky box is auto updated through your land line, if power effects this yor machine goes into a spinning state!

The left and right button hold (on right side) worked for me, except I never got a green light. Held them for a count of 30 when I plugged in, then left it alone for 1 minute, then it started via remote.. good times.

Guys i tried the whole left right button and the lights stay on but as soon as i take my fingers off them the circle just continues to flash. Any ideas

how to sort it.
- hold down the back up button and keep it pushed down
- unplug it from the mains and then plug it back in still keeping hold of the back up button and hold it till the three little lights come on at the from, a message will come up on the screen and you will have to wait for 10 mins and then when it goes of leave the box for a few minutes and then turn it on and it should work :)

Just to confirm how to reset your sky plus box. This does delete your recorded programs though.

Turn off mains power. Leave it off for a few mins.
Hold down the right and left arrows (on right hand side of the box)
Turn mains power on. Keep holding onto the arrows.
The big green circle in the middle of the box will start flashing.
Release the two arrow buttons and then press TWICE the select button (in the middle of the two arrows).
The green circle in the middle of the box will stop flashing and go solid.
Wait 2 mins.
Press the sky button on your remote control.

The box has been reset and should now work.

I had a similar problem with my box late last night, managed to get it working again without the Live Pause facility, then decided to try and restore this facility by restarting the box today with no joy.

At this point I used the advice below without success.

Decided to ring SKY to find a fix, the guy gave the same advice as Keith's post, but rather than depressing the up & down buttons, I was told to depress the left & right buttons. I was then asked to wait 2 to 2.5 mins before pressing the "SKY" button on the remote, the green light came back on.

One downside all my recorded programmes have been deleted...hey ho but at least my box is operational once more.

I also asked the guy prior to pressing the "SKY" button how quickly an engineer would be able to replace in the event of the fix not working - he replied "One/Two working days"

Anyway thanks to Keith for placing the original post , as many people can't be bothered once they have found a fix.

I used the soloution from Nige Feb 2010 and it worked, But totally deleted all of my recorded items so bear this in mind if you follow this soloution, but it got my plus box working again

Had same problem as carole so i tried what was suggested and it worked the second time i done it. First time i pressed the remote straight away and nothing happened . The second time i left the remote for a couple of minutes before i pressed the button and it worked

when i had this problem a few weeks ago i did a very similar tthing to what Keith suggested. So if his answer doesn't work then try this....
turn off the power at the mains then press the left and right directional buttons on the box continuously whilst turning the power back on at the mains. Contin ue for about thirty seconds and then press the button in thecentre of the directional ones (the select).
Leave for a few minutes and then switch from standby using the remote in the usual manner.

Turn off at the mains,on the right of the box is directional arrows hold the up and down buttons in and switch mains back on,keep holding them until the green circle lights in the middle, let go of buttons then wait a minute or so then press the sky button on the remote.The stand/by light will then go to green,and you should be sorted hope this helps.
