Mend Maytag LDE410 Replaced Heating Element Dryer Heat

No fan/heat on Maytag LDE410?

Recently replaced the heating element on the LDE410 dryer, but now there's no air movement or heat. First question...does this thing have a fan (seperate) or does it run off of the tumble motor? Second...is there a sensor or switch that can be replaced to get voltage back to the heating element? If I'm reading my voltmeter right, it's showing only 122 volts on one side of the connection and 12 volts (both AC) on the other side?? (which makes no sense to me) I can bypass the door switch and make the motor and drum turn, but it doesn't feel as tho there's any air movement at all. I know there's got to be some sort of safety switch that prevents the heating element from getting hot with no air....what to do????

Hello,

If you didn't have 240 volts with the dryer turned on and the door shut at the element terminals you do have to find the thermostats and cutoffs or fuses first. The problem could be a bad timer contact as well but best to check the thermostats first. Check these with the power off and at least one wire disconnected from the item you are checking. If you get no continuity in one of them then you found your problem. Easiest way to find them is with the wiring diagram that came with the dryer. You may have located some of them as you stated earlier on the blower and the element housing.

Thanx for the help... Now I guess I need to find the thermostats, because I'm getting good voltage....just not at the heating elements. I'm assuming the thermostats (2 total?) are the two devices directly connected back from the heating element core, located on what appears to be motor cowling or a shroud of some kind. I'm also guessing that I should be getting 220 volts total (110 each?) from these..

Thanx again for the help..

Hello,

There is no separate fan just the blower wheel attached to the motor. I would check to make sure you have 240 volts at the dryer terminal block. If you don't, you will have to check the breaker or fuse box. If you do, I would then check to see if you have 240 volts across the heating element terminals. If you don't, your going to have to check your thermostats and such per diagram with an ohm meter to see where the voltage is broken. If you have the 240 to the element and no heat, the element is suspect. Hope this helps.
