Location of external temp sensor? (Re too cold exterior)?
I have a Kelvinator K13/12 GB fridge freezer model 39010038 (fridge top, freezer below, no auto-defrost, single control), which occasionally shuts down when the room temp gets too low in the utility room/pantry.
It's apparently a common problem: http://applianceparts.wordpress.com/2009/01/12/why-won't-the-freezer-in-my-garage-refrigerator-freeze/ :-
- "The thermostat, located in the refrigerator part of the appliance, senses when the temperature rises above the set level and turns on the compressor causing the freezer to cool and pushing the cold air produced in the freezer part into the refrigerator part. For a refrigerator located in the garage, where the air temperature gets much colder, the thermostat does not sense a rise in outside air temperature and therefore, never kicks the compressor on."
Rather than struggle with buying and fitting a kit (as per that article, if available in the UK anyway), I just point a fan heater at the (door closed) freezer for 20 minutes, and it kicks into life again, usually good for a day or so, even at the same low temperature.
But I could probably do something easier and more efficient if I knew *where* the temperature sensor was located.
I'm *guessing* that there is no actual external sensor, but just a single internal thermostat ( http://www.apart4u.com/default.cfm?viewprod&id=10527 ) located in the fridge behind the setting dial, with a temp probe running down from there into the freezer? So far so good?
If so, where is the business end of the probe (a thermometer, basically?) to be found? So that I can more directly heat it up a bit, when needed?
Am I talking rubbish? If not, how can I locate the thermometer?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.
