WD440 washing machine - ALL lights flashing!!?

Hi,

I have a hotpoint WD440 and when i push the 'on' button all lights flash for a minute or so and then the start light goes a solid red as normal. I can then use the machine as normal. Although if i try and cancel a wash using the 'cancel' button, nothing happens and if i hold this button down all lights start flashing until eventually it cancells the wash. Does anyone know what this means with all the lights flashing and the slow reaction to buttons pressed?
