I to have a KH 4402 and have had it for just over Three years and don't do a lot of shredding with it and mine has exactly the same problem. I found this out after a good strip down because i thought it was only jammed (it may still be) but when i took the gear housing cover off i couldn't believe my eyes, gear totally stripped of half its teeth!! And, i have to agree with Brian 2010, it does seem to me to be a deliberate manufacturing design 'imperfection', plastic/nylon to metal is a massive error in engineering, its a school boy error ... or is it?
We're talking about our shredders, they're thinking about business which is a shame because if Lervia stuck metal gears in these machines and charged us that bit extra we could have a dam good machine and they will have a good reputation

I am sad that this person is so disappointed with the Lervia cross-cut shredder!
I have had this model for about 10 years now (bought from Lidl)
When I first used the shredder i jammed it, Lidl gave me the phone number of the company and when I spoke to them I admitted that the problem was entirely caused by myself; I was sent a brand new shredder (free of chjarge!) which has served me very well since!!
I wonder did this person go back to Lidl or contact the manufacturer?

As far as I know, the reason for the plastic gears is to restrict the life of the shredder so the guy with the broken M/C will go and spend his money on another one.
This is what manufactures call "built in obselescence" it's a ploy to get more money out of the public as most people will not go to the bother of having a small appliance repaired
This is down to the fact that we are all guilty of being wastefull and manufacturing companies seem to encourage this attitude instead of making products with built in quality to last a good period of time
I myself have a LERVIA KH 4402 Shredder that has not done the justice for the price that I paid and I am looking for a gear that will fit with the motor shaft from other types of appliances that maybe I can modify to fit rather than throw the whole unit away
