Mend Renault Clio 93 Overheating Coolant Thermostat

clio 93 overheating mystery?

my car is over heating i have changed the thermostst, and thermo switch for the fan. i have bled my radiator and also added coolant, the garage are at loggerheads as to why the temp goes up too far, when its actually in the garage the fan works fine, but soon as i drive the car for a few miles then it over heats!!!!!the car is quite old, if the fan kicks in like it should when in the garage it isnt a blockage, the coolant is clean and free from sludge and oil. i do not lose any coolant,when the engine starts to overheat eg the needle goes into the red, the rad is still sold and the hose to the radiator is luke warm
can any one help me please??

WELL THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN SORTED, THE THERMOSTAT WAS PUT ON THE WRONG WAY ROUND APPARENTLY ITS VERY DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHICH WAY ROUND UNLESS YOU MAKE A NOTE WHEN REMOVING!!!

the top hose of the expansion pipe gets really hot but the large pipe going into the radiator is cool, the thermostat is brand new, so i dont think it is that, and its had a new thermo switch for the fan. i will ring the garage tomoz and ask them to check the stat is the right way round, the fan does kick in but very intermitantly usually when its just stood ticking over, but when driving the engine hot light flashes and the fan doesnt kick in.....

also check water pump is working [sometimes impeller corrodes or drops off ]

if there is a small hose on to expansion tank make sure that there are no blockages at both ends where it connects up if blocked will cause air lock! also are you sure radiator is not partially blocked?

I reckon the thermostat is the wrong way round,if the top hose isn't getting hot and the rad is cold the stat is either faulty and not opening or the wrong way round,bitter pill to swallow I know but but I would go back to the stat.Just done the wife's last month so I know it is a pig,but it only takes you half the time second time round.
