two separate remotes control both video and satellite?

Sagem video and satellite, the remotes for each, control both devices, turn one on they both come on turn off the both go off. Tried using Total control 4 remote controller as suggested by supplier, didn't change a thing. It appears the remote codes within each device are the same. Other than moving the two devices 7 metres apart (suggested range for remote) has anyone any ideas. Have contacted Sagem web site and technical department, told nothing they can do.
