vauxhall corsa heater not working?

I am having simillar problems with my corsa. The fan would only work on setting 4 and now not at all (when looking on the web this seems quite common) The garage I have taken it to have said it is either the valves or a block in the motor and that I will need to replace the whole motor. They also told me that it is the same with my radiator engine, however I have had no problems with my engine over heating at all - now I am the least mechanicly minded person ever, but I would have thought I would have had problems with over heating if this was true?
Any help or advice please as I do not want to be subjected to a rip off for cheap or unnessery work due to my lack of knowledge.

can be caused by air lock in cooling system,faulty thermostat/no thermostat,blocked heater matrix/no water in cooling system.my first choice would be to check thermostat,if that is found to be ok,then my guess would be that your heater matrix is blocked.

Check the engine water level.
