How do I get my Kenmore washing machine Model 110.15952401 to start?

I have a model 110.15952401 Kenmore washing machine. When I start a cycle, the tub fills with water, but after I close the lid, it will not start turning unless I slam the lid shut hard a couple of times. What part(s) do I need to replace? Is this the main lead switch that is going out? Everything else works nominally on my machine - it just doesn't start when you close the lid.
