Is this serious - see question below?

I have a two year old Panasonic DVD recorder, model DMR-EZ47VEB. For the last few days when I switch it on it comes up with the message 'new device found', so I have to reset it. This is now happening every time I switch on, it used to only be now and then. Is this a major fault?
