My binatone viva 1200 cordless phone when I make a call I can hear clearly but the person I'm calling has distortion and break-up. Can you please advise.

Just out of interest, does this happen with ALL calls you make or is it just ONE individual?
If it is ONE individual ONLY then I would suggest that the "fault" is possibly with their phone rather than yours.
If your phone is at fault then I would suggest that new batteries were tried if you have had the phone for a while, else if "New" then talk to the shop owner where you purchased it.
