Mend Rover 414 Alarm Short Time

Does anyone know why the car alarm sets off without any reason?

I have got a Rover 414 I, and recently without any reason the alarm sets off. Sometime it can go off for a short time and then it stops, and sometime for much longer, i was luck enough to be around so I could unlock the car to make it stop. To mine and I imagine to my neighbors' annoyance, it has also happen in the middle of the night. Does anyone out there has any idea of why this is happening? Please heeelp

Thanks for your suggestion Malc, anyway luckily enough at the moment the car is acting normal again, the alarm doesn't seem to be going off by its self anymore

you need to get an auto electrician to check it out it sounds like you have short some where and its dropping the power supply making the alarm think the door is being opened.
