Strange popping noise?

I have electric storage heating, and the storage heater I have is making a strange noise - I can only describe it as a metallic popping noise. This only happens when it is being charged up.

Has anyone experienced this before, and should I be worried? I have only ever had Gas heating before so don't have a clue.
