Sorry not being funny but back to basics.
The front brake is a disc brake. The is a silver disc on the inside of the front wheel this is it. It will have acaliper on it which should grip the wheel using pads when you squeeze the lever. above the lever is a small square fixed box thing. This is the brake fluid reseviour. This should be full of fluid, you can see this using the sight glass. If there is no fluid you will need to bleed it. If the lever goes to the handle bar its proabably air in your system and/or no fluid. Check your pads.
The back brake will be either a disc or drum. If disc then same issues if drum you may just need to adjust it.
