Candy CN450 Won't hot fill, won't spin?

If this machine is set to a hot wash cycle (that should fill with hot water only) then no water enters the drum. The drum turns , attempting to wash with no water in.
Hot water is reaching the inlet valve but no voltage is being supplied to open it.
On the other hand if a cooler cycle is selected, the machine fills with cold water as expected.
If the timer is advanced to the rinse part of the cycle then cold water enters, the drum turns slowly as it should, the water is pumped out but the spin cycle does not start.
Have I got two faults or is one fault causing both problems?
