Mend Worcester 240 Temp Control

What does the temp control on the Worcester 240 do?

It's something that's been driving me and my housemates crazy. What does the temperature control on the front of the Worcester 240 combi boiler actually control? Is it the temperature of the CH? Hot water? We just don't know.
Since our gas bills have been huge, I'm hoping the answer to this will help is save money. Please!
