fixing a broken Argos bed?

I sat on the side of my bed and it snapped just out of guarantee unfortunately but first time slept upon. Argos would not replace.
So I took it to peices and discovered the wood they used was full of big knots and the main supporting side strut had broken around one of them.
Claiming on insurance not worthwhile and mattresses are fine - I would have had to sell them - to pay for the excess - what a palaver just before Xmas (its two singles - one slides beneath the base of the other as guest bed). We all know how much carpenters charge! So decided no option but to mend myself.
Took the bed apart - hundreds of 32. staples had been shot in - no screws - and it took ages to remove them all. Considered hiring or buying one of these power driven nailers but afraid I would have accident! So now gonna put it all back together with wood screws hopefully. I took the damaged wood to B&Q and had them cut new to size.
I plan to reinforce the corner joints with those metal bracket type things I saw in B&Q. I just hope it'll hold up. Have to retack all the fabric around too. If anyone can suggest ways to reinforce I would appreciate....... I am a lady pensioner good thing am a strong one!!!
