I have a close coupled armitage chank cistern and want to get into it to fix a terrible air-lock noise when it fills. But I can't even get into the cistern - there is a circular silver fitting on the top with two buttons - large for full flush and smaller button for short flush and this seems the only way to undo the lid. It is a complete smooth fitting with no obvious way of gripping it to unscrew it. Any ideas as how to undo it?
on mine you have to lift up the knobs, on the inside edge you should see "service" with an arrow pointing up. You then pull them right out and there is a plastic screw underneath which you can undo.

Yes, insert a pair of pliers (or similar ) to push down both buttons, then unscrew turning anti clockwise, then lift off the lid
