HDD Replacement?

You will need the Operating System CD to rebuild the software on the new disk.

You will need a new disk of the same technology type IDE/SATA - SATA disks obtain their priority station by virtue of where they plug in on the motherboard - IDE disks have a tiny Master/Slave jumper on the back.

All disks have two connections Power & Signal.

Disks are usually held in with a few screws - you need to take the machine's covers off to access them.

You will need to instruct the BIOS to BOOT (initial software load) from the CD rather from the HDD.

You make the physical change

You boot from the CD, follow the instructions on the screen and rebuild the OS on the new disk

You modify the BIOS to boot from the new disk

You reload any applications you need from their original CDs or by download.
