edc light flashes on iveco 75E17 and vehicle wont start?

the EDC light has nothind to do with the locks......

Probably not the same thing but my 51reg has not started... but I get nothing apart from the dash lights. My mechanic says the keys are coded on the Tectors (2001+ model I think) and if you turn it too quickly then it cant read the code and will not start. He says to put the key in, turn it part way, let all lights go out, then turn to start. It worked for mine.
