In the case of my fridge, some soya milk had spilled out of its carton and collected in the drip tray behind the fridge. About 3 days later it began to smell really bad, so I had to pull the fridge out and clean the tray out with water and paper kitchen towels. It was fiddly to do as the drip tray was not easily accessible and didn't want to come loose. I thought at first it might be a dead mouse.

Its the drip pan under the condenser coil. Water that enters the drip pan is not evaporating as quickly as it should . The water becomes stagnat and white mold starts to grow in the drip pan. Just clean it out with soapy water . I have the same problem. My whirlpool never did this in 25 years.

Behind my fridge it smells like vomit. I cleaned it with comet, fabuloso cleaned the wires everything. But it still smells really bad especially in the area the refrigerator is in. I don't know what else to do.

I was having the same problem. It smelt disgusting! Like piss and cheese and milk..... Found a tray at the back of the fridge that collects spills from the fridge. It was like stale milky cheese. Took the tray out and cleaned it. Smell is now gone 😊

Has anyone complained to samsung? I also am totally 'pissed' off with this. It's only a few years old and this is ridiculous. We should publically shame samsung.

I know this is an old post but we have had the same issue with a new (2013) Samsung refrigerator top and freezer botton and this has happened to us twice...we think we know what caused the problem and how to avoid it in the future!
When changing the water filter unplug and drain any water from the backside of the refrigerator BEFORE you loosen or take out the water filter from the refrigerator. If you don't do this the water filter leaks water all over the refrigerator in places you will find hard to get to and create a foul smell. This has happened to us both times we changed the filter (the second time we weren't at home and our son without knowing changed the filter while we were out causing the smell AGAIN)! Hope this helps!

The drainage hose leads to a drip tray which has gathered what appears to be a horrible sour liquid. The only problem is trying to detach the drainage tray from the freezer, you cant get a screwdriver in to remove it. I think the only answer is using paper towels to soak it all up then clean with a disinfectant spray. I thought it was my drains and after disconnecting them all i noticed the tray in the fridge ahhhhh.

Hey i had the same thing couldnt figure out what it was took drip tray out and bleached but the smell kept coming back in the end got of a service company in london www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk they came out and found that milk and other stuff had spilled into the drainage system inside the fridge unto the heating element which when hot gave off a stench im glad to say they rectified.

Just had same problem, smell of bad cheese, human vomit etc. coming in waves. Following various answers checked back of fridge and found that the drainage tray/condenser had smelly sticky liquid covering it. Obviously after water had drained from inside the fridge and left behind after liquid had evaporated. Smell coming in waves every time fan kicked in. Cleaned out using kitchen roll to absorb liquid and then a little water and lemon juice mixed. All OK now....

Just bought a new samsung fridge freezer and have just the same smell that Heather mentions. - Not very pleasent at all, and rather nasty when you have visitors smelling a urine smell in your kitchen!
I will be phoning my supplier tomorrow to see what can be done about it!

I have the same problem and have been told that it's that the drainage hole at the bottom of the fridge is blocked, I poked a pipe cleaner down it and it was disgusting!

The hole seems to go on for ever though so I have no idea how to clean it all the way down. I've tried pouring water and bicarbonate of soda down it but I don't know if it's worked yet.

I had a car that had this same problem, it was the smell of the oil that is mixed with the freon. To correct I had to add freon to the system. Each time it became low the smell returned. Check your system to see if it is low on freon.

We are having the same problem with out samsung fridge freezer. It smells like a public toiet.
I once remember the air conditioning unit being faulty at work and it had the same smell
