The hob glass lid will not stay up on my belling gas cooker?

if its a manufacture fault surly it should repaired for nothing dosnt matter how old it is

I have a Leisure Cook Master 100 whose glass lid would not stay up. Rather illogically, since it's supposed to lubricate hinges and make them easier to move, I put some WD40 into both sides and it fixed it like a treat. In my case it wasn't that hinge was too loose, just that the holding mechanism inside the hinge bracket didn't retract onto the glass in the upright position so the glass fell back to a non-supportable angle. Lubing it meant the hinge could move with the glass so when it was upright it supported it properly. Try this first before lashing out on a new hinge spring.

Five minute job. Remove small cross-headed bolt at the end of the lid hinge and remove the cover. Lift off the lid and extract the faulty assembly. New one cant be obtained from Amazon say for about £10.

you need to remove the spring assembly and retension
the springs beware that these are left and right handed
and you will need to hold it in a vice to move the spring in to the correct possition which is shown on photos of the spring assembly on the partmasters web site

try removing the lid & turniing the squared end of the spring at either end to tension the spring then replace in the slots. this may work but not alway. you need to remove the plastic covers at either end, then the lid will lift out of the slots.use a small spanner or pliers to turn the squared ends.I cannot guarantee this will work but worth a try. the same thing has happend to my belling cooker lid will not stay up and out of gurantee . i am mad as cooker is just a year old

I also have the same problem with my Belling G755. When I purchased the cooker I was spending a lot of time away from home so did not become fully aware of the problem until after the guarantee ran out. Belling did say they would send an engineer to look at it but I would have to pay £140.00 call out charge. I have fixed a small hook to the wall and an elastic hair band to the lid, when the lid is up the band goes on the hook and holds the lid up. Not ideal but safer than the lid crashing down on hot pans which it did to my son. Future customers need to be aware of this problem

I'm sorry I can't help with the problem. I have had exactly the same issue with my Belling cooker. The first time it happened the cooker was still under guarantee so the repair man came & put a new spring in the hinge. But now the guarantee has run out and the problem has happened again. It is so annoying when the lid wont stay up. I have to leave a solid heavy metal pan at the back of the hob to keep the lid up. A design fault that Belling need to sort out I think..
