check that you are NOT using hoselock couplings that stop the water when disconected,

Sounds like a air block, connect the hose turn the tap on and pull the trigger, at this point dont turn it on.
When the water is running smooth out the nozel plug it in and turn it on.
give it a try, all the best.

Mine was the same and I found the fault was dirt in the lance head - cleaned out by backflushing lance wit hose ( lance disconnected from unit ) and worked ok BUT my mate has one that did the same and it was the pump - Replacement was prohibitive so he insured his car with Tesco and got a new washer free - lucky sod
