canon lens error?

I have this lens error. Went to the trouble of disassembling the camera and lens unit. Found a plastic gear that lost a tooth. The trouble is, I cannot find a replacement for this 4mm gear. Tried fabricating using a mold, but only reproduced the missing tooth (and a bubble. It is hard creating the small size part).

I tried contacting Canon support. They could only offer to sell me the ~$120 lens unit.
