My John Deere STX 38 won't move. What can I check?

Check to see if the belt to the transmission has broken. This must be done with the engine off and the negative battery terminal disconnected. Check also for a broken spring for this belt. A clutch pedal not returning to it's normal position would be a indicator of this. Another possibility could be that the key is missing from one of the transmission drive axles.
