Nissan Primastar "sticky" engine performance?

I have a 55plate 1.9dci primastar which has covered 95000miles.Had a service done at 90k where it needed a new water pump and also had cambelt fitted at the same time.Was noticeably more sluggish after this service,and engine has developed a slight "rattle" under acceleration/deceleration.I think the exhaust may be blowing from the head area,and wondered would this be part of the problem?
