How can I stop my bmw 323i from chugging?

My bmw 323i starts chugging as it heats up and seems to be fine when cold. I have changed spark plugs and checked all the coil packs, I have also removed the air filter, none of which cured the problem. If anyone thinks they may know the cause pls help! :(
