what could be causing this problem with my 1999 ford mondeo?

My Mondeo is V reg 16 v and i have a problem with a clunking from the offside wheel when driven and touching the brakes. I have checked and found the wishbone rubber is split, could this be causing the problem? The car feels like it is all over the road when driven.
