Danfoss valve not fully shutting off water?

I am unable to remove a radiator because the horizontally fixed valve (circa 1991) will not fully close.
It is not one of the Danfoss valves which were supplied with a plastic cap which could be screwed down to close off the valve.
If I have to replace it will standard valves fit without any major pipework alteration?
