It sometimes can work and if it does it is a short term solution. The only reason you will need to do this is if the fridge is not cooling. If is does not cool you need to establish was the actual issue is. On 240v it could be the 240 element, or on 12V could be the 12 element. If gas then the jet or burner may need cleaned, even if it lights. If it works on one and not the other then you don't need to turn it. Its only if you are sure that there is no other fault and it refuses to cool that you could try this. But as I daid, its a short term solution and the cooling unit at the reat will need replaced. Sometimes unecomomical to do so and a new fridge required
