laguna keys send car hay wire?

Anybody out there know if the laguna keys when faulty will prevent your car from doing anything at all, the keys wont lock or open the car, when inserted into the slot, the alarm goes off, and there is no power to any part of the car, wipers, cds, mirrors etc, and the car doesnt start, nothing at all, please help, is this a key problem, or is my car F***ed. the car is an 02 1.8 dynamique sports tourer.
