Mend InSinkErator 777ss Model Noise Unit

In Sink Erator model 777ss makes a very loud grinding noise?

In Sink Erator model 777ss
Purchased 9/10/2001

Unit seems to process food waste OK but it makes a very loud grinding noise. It sounds to me like metal-to-metal contact. This noise is intermittent but occurs probably 90% of the time. I cannot feel any foreign material of any type inside the unit.

Either there is something stuck in there or perhaps the bearings that support the central spindle have had enough, causing the grinding wheel to contact the body of the unit. At 9 years old though, its done quite well.....!
