I have a 1996 Micra auto with 12000! miles on clock. The gear shift wont go into drive until the engine is warm. Any clues.

If the lever moves freely without the engine running but is difficult/ crunchy into drive then the powder clutch is dragging. This seems to be from about 30,000 miles, later if you are lucky. The clutch is repairable.see 'fedauto.co.uk'

try puting your foot on the brake and keep it pressed in the change the gear shift into d for drive it is a saftey device so u do not just put the car into d for drive then roll forward as it is automatic and hit anything foot on the brake first secures the car from moving forward good luck if stuck you can call me on 01506652861
