blue screen error caused by a device or driver ?

sometimes my keypad on my laptop stops working and an error message comes up then when i send the error message to microsoft the response is to download and install the latest updates and device drivers for my computer but i do not know whether to do this or not? or how as when i read directions on how it does not bring the correct page up! Should i do it anyway
