every now and again my sisters diesel zafira starfs shaking vibrating and smelling of burning rubber tunn off engine seems ok vauxall say this a self cleaning system for the exhaust system is this true or bull

Sounds true. It needs to be driven on longer journeys and at higher speed. If the car is being used for short journeys, especially mainly town driving, change it for a petrol model.
