How do I fix my 1979 Ford Escort Mark2 Ghia?

I have had trouble for as longs as I've had this car with starting. If the temperature outside is too cold the car won't start and if the temperature is too hot the car will not start. When I go for a drive on a hot day the car will overheat while I am driving and stop running so I end up having to jump the car. If I want to drive somewhere in the early morning on a cold day the car won't start. On a cold day the car starts igniting but never finally kicks over while if its too hot the car won't even try to ignite. I was wondering if there is anything I can possibly do to make this car work whether it be a freezing day or hot day?

on your solenoid there may be 2 small wires[ plus heavy cables for starter],one of these small wires is from ign switch, but the other supplies battery voltage to ign coil to boost spark on cold starts,[then reverts back to supply through resistive cable to supply coil as it is at a lower voltage ] check its giving 12v on cranking-if not it may be your cold start problem.as for hot starting,it could be carb float level too high or float valve leaking causing it to flood with fuel easy to check with filter assy off when hot and look down carb venturi to see if fuel is seeping in.also check carb breather is clear.

I think you need a quality set of contact breaker points and condenser, distributor cap, HT leads and a set of plugs, for a start.
